Definition of Cheating?

What is the definition of cheating?

We would like to gather everyone's opinion on this so that we can come up with an over agreed upon defintion, that would become the premice of what we stand against.

So this is a chance for all those of you who have visited this blog, but are unsure that we'll cover the experiences that you've had, to voice your opinions.

Please use this chance to be heard, so post a comment (click the "comments" text at the bottom of each post).

To me cheating is a player with enhanced abilities that another player doesnt have. All players should be on the same level of abilities and left to just skill to win etc. Using mods takes away the competitive edge most of us enjoy and ruins it completely for anyone looking to improve. AND, i think they're pathetic and should be kicked to death! but thats just my opinion!

Ah yes to tell you the truth it has become the norm to "mod" players in the Halo Universe - To me thats one of the reasons I stoped playing ! No sooner had you got on line then bang "your out of the park" & like R34P3RM4N said you than have to put up with the trash in the lobby - yes you could have the point that its a natural thing to "mod" your player but when its used in the wrong way its not a game its a pathetic excuse for getting your kicks and nothing is gained other than a "cheap thrill"

Nice to hear from you Usudekin/Princess Mimi, glad to see you're coping with parenthood well. Looks like you have a lovely, but very messy, girl there.

I do have to disagree to terming modding as "natural", When you have players who have become level 41 (see: Name & Shame - pt1) thru modding. These players then claim that they're the best and we're all lower than them. This is no "natural" skill, you put these people in one of the big tournaments (without their own modded xbox) and they wouldn't stand a chance!

Yes I would agree that modding to get up through the rank is bad :-( & too true if you stripped them of there "mods" they would not stand a chance. Like Kenny used to say "round them all up put them in a field & bomb the Bas@*%ds" maybe we could write some code to stop the mods ? i.e. if u can mod surley u can de mod mmmmm how great would that be they come on thinking there the nuts & kapow "payback time"

From the Bungie forums:

For those that think that the AU is a great failure, this should explain it this was posted by ReconN54

"If someone expected that that AU would make it so that their console would explode and kill the modder with HDD shrapnel, then it's not going to be comforting.

There likely is some comfort for those who read the announcement and understood that it means that the AU allows the automated tools at Bungie to tell what accounts and consoles are using modified software so that the (again) automated tools can do their automated job of reviewing and banning accounts from H2 Matchmaking.

Automated is not synonymous with instantaneous.

The folks who are using modded content right now are helping the servers to collect data.

Imagine a child that taunts a rottweiler by poking the dog in the nose, the dog lets it slide, the kid pokes again, the dog stops wagging it's tail, the kid pokes again, the dog's ears go back, the kid pokes once more, the dog begins to growl, the child continues to poke, the dog bares it's teeth, and still poking continues..... Finally, having had enough, the dog rips the child's throat out.

Poor kid? Nah, very patient dog."

and Achronos with how things are going

"Sigh. Here's the deal. It takes time to ban someone. So, gradually, every modder will get banned - it just isn't instanteous. Eventually, the only modders will be people who create a new account - and then they only get one or two games before they get banned as well.

That's what I mean when I say it isn't a magic bullet - the results of the auto update are gradual.

The update IS working. I'm sitting here watching the people get banned (automatically). It simply takes time. I've watched guys come on with one account, see it get banned, then come online with similarly named account, and get banned again, each automatically, each after only 1 modded game played."

Ah light at the end of the tunnel me thinks ?

Nice idea about the coding to defeat the modding.

I don't really think the idea of the AU taking time works, as has been proven here at this blog - there are people modding, have been reported and are still playing many months later (getting near to half a year!).

So how long does the AU need?!

In the mean time these modders are beating other HONEST players, who then lose their ranking. It should be that if a player is found to be modding and then banned, that those who were beaten by them (in the many games, I expect) are then replenished their lost ranks!! But this will never happen.

So don't you think it's a little unfair that even when the AU knows, it lets the modders play & play & play (pokes & pokes & pokes) for many months after, whilst destroying innocent players ranks?
